Post #4: The Blog Design Plan

To design my Information Technology Blog Final Project, I will take a simple approach. Less is more in this case, and simplicity will help drive a wider audience to my blog. I will include the required elements of a header, main text, sidebar, and footer. This basic approach will help me to focus on the design and maximize my time to get creative.

The audience for my blog will be healthcare workers in tech and those new to the technology field. My intended audience will impact my design choices as I will need to create a design tailored to beginner technology. This means making sure the elements of my design resonate with my audience and attracts them to explore all the aspects of my blog site. I will need to come up with a concept that helps me stand out from other blog sites within my niche (Dean, 2024). Creating a captivating “about” page will be critical in helping me connect with my audience. It is here where I will be able to tell my story and build a personal connection with my intended audience. Consistency in my design will also be important.

There are several design strategies and features that I found in my research that I would like to implement in my own blog design. In the sidebars, I will keep my widgets to a minimum, using only a search bar, social media links, blog categories, videos, and a newsfeed widget (Nicole, 2019-2025). My blog site will have simple navigation, and I will use the advantage of having empty/white space around my images (Tomasis, 2006-2025). I will use large, bold fonts to attract readers and keep my content easy to understand (Dean, 2024). I will highlight and change the font color of the text that I wish to stand out. My background image will be a high-quality, tech-related image, and I will use a neon color scheme (strong, bold, and flashy). I will also incorporate videos into the blog site to increase engagement and the time spent on my site (Nicole, 2019-2025). The headings and subheadings will be placed strategically to improve SEO. The labels I will use to categorize posts will be what's new in tech, healthcare technology, and getting started with tech.
